Cozy Homes

Yesterday we attended our first Live LAGOM workshop at the store in Leeds, looking at cozy homes. After a journey from hell through rush hour Leeds we were ready to learn more about how we can keep the house cozy without having to resort to upping the heating!

We started by looking round the room-sets to identify things which are sustainable. Clearly my good habits have been rubbing off on Karl, who spotted some things to add to our shopping list to save more energy at home.

We then had dinner - an unexpected surprise - in the cafe, and had a chance to chat with the other families and staff taking part. The apple cake was particularly delicious!

Next stop was back into store for a special workshop making draft excluders!

We each got our goodie bags, which contained a rather excellent sewing kit (with super sharp scissors, something I'm missing in my home crafting stash!) and a 'socktopus' for hanging socks rather than using the tumble dryer. This was another very welcome addition, as my current 'socktopus' is missing several of his clippy legs after several years of valiant service!

Our leaders Nadine & Jack pulled out masses of gorgeous fabric for us to choose from - heaven for a fabric hoarder like myself! After some deliberation, we decided on the patterned brown/black 'eye' material to go with our sofas.

Then we got our craft on (well, Karl helped!) and started sewing our draft exculders up by hand, and had more of a chat with our fellow LAGOMers - a perfect Wednesday evening activity! I made it to the end of the first section before deciding to continue with the help of my sewing machine at home!

We were allowed to raid the fabrics to continue our cozy home crafting and I left with a bag of scraps and the innards of a cushion which will become cushions, throws and more draft excluders in our new home, making sure our living room is well and truely LAGOM! The finished articles will be making an appearance here soon!
