New Home Feeling

So its been a little while since my last post, but big news - we've finally bought our first house!

In keeping with our sustainable living mantra, we've been working on getting our home set up in the most sustainable way possible while still making it the home we've been dreaming of for years.

We've been very lucky that very little needed to be redecorated when we moved in, but there were a few rooms which certainly needed a lick of paint! So we went on down to Seagulls, a local organisation which recycled unwanted paint to save it from landfill. We were able to choose our colours which were mixed by the Seagulls team, so not only have ethical paint, but a unique colour combination too!

The next thing to source was some furniture, as furnishing a 3 story house (over 30 steps from top to bottom!) is a rather big task! Again, we've been very lucky to be offered a lot of second hand items from family and friends, sourcing sofas, rugs, a TV, chairs and a coffee table for the price of a box of chocolate! All of these items are in almost perfect condition, and would have cost a fortune to buy new - turns out we have excellent friends (with excellent taste in furniture!)

But what about the other furniture? We started with a trip to our local reuse shop attached to the council tip, which resells items donated by local people rather than being dumped in the skips. We managed to get a set of stacking tables here for a bargain £7.50, which after tightening the screws were the perfect addition to the living room! We'll be popping back regularly to check out the new items at the the reuse shop to furnish the rest of the house as we go on!

We also finally got to unbox some of the things we bought with our Live LAGOM money back in December, so I'll be posting about those separately soon! We did cave and buy some new items from Ikea, but made sure to look for the sustainable material ranges and even saved a TV stand from 'bargain corner'.

There's still a long way to go before the house is how we'd like it, and there are a few more redecorating projects to come (including statement walls in the bedroom and craft rooms) but I'm proud of the sustainable start we've made to home ownership.
